"Excellent emergency dental care"

About: Ayrshire Central Hospital / Orthodontics NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a service user),

I broke a tooth on a Friday night, exposing the nerve and was in a great deal of pain, struggling to eat and drink. I phoned NHS 24 the day before at lunchtime, was assessed over the phone by a dental nurse and given an appointment for the following morning.

I was extremely nervous but Jamie the dentist and the dental nurse (sorry, I forgot your name) soon put me at ease and it was all over very quickly. Jamie kept me informed throughout the procedure and gave me advice on the options I should discuss with my own dentist. Excellent service.

Dear Scorpio71,

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion. I was sorry to learn you had cause to contact 111 due to your dental issues. This sounds very painful and I hope you are now feeling much better after treatment.

It is great to hear that NHS 24 played a part in your positive patient journey and referred you to your local services for an appointment.

If you have any feedback specifically related to your call to the 111 service, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me at patient.experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk, including your Care Opinion username, and I would be pleased to review this for you.

Thank you again for sharing your story.

Best wishes,

Stephanie

Dear Scorpio71

With apologies for the delay, I would like to thank you for taking the time to share this lovely feedback about the care provided by the Community Dental Services within Ayrshire Central Hospital.

I am sorry to hear that you broke a tooth, exposing a nerve and resulting in dental pain which meant you struggled to eat and drink. As my colleague Stephanie says, it does indeed sound very painful. I am however glad to hear that the dentist and dental nurse you saw were able to put you at ease during your appointment, ultimately resulting in a positive experience for you. This is a lovely example of the patient centred care that we strive to provide.

Our staff really appreciate receiving feedback from their patients and it will be my pleasure to share your kind words with the Community Dental Team and with Jamie in particular. I know they will be delighted to receive this feedback and it will be really encouraging for them to know that you felt so well supported.

Please accept my best wishes and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
