I was admitted to SDU via A&E with what I thought was tonsillitis but ended up also being epiglottitis. I was a patient for a few days, receiving IV steroids, fluids and antibiotics.
I was in a massive amount of pain, and I couldn't believe that this was all just tonsillitis. I never felt judged and always received incredible care from the staff on the wards.
In particularly RN Delight and HCA Greg were both absolutely outstanding. Delight was constantly on top of my pain by offering me analgesia in a way I could manage to get it in - I was unable to swallow tablets so given IV paracetamol and oramorph. HCA Greg was so kind and reassuring, ensuring I was ok and escalating to Delight if I needed anything such as medication. I felt very safe in good hands, and I am incredibly grateful to both of them.
I was eventually moved up to Blake but my stay on SDU was fantastic. The ward was clean and tidy, staff always friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Staff were great at introducing themselves, checking I had a bell, offering food and drink (although I had to sadly decline as I couldn't swallow!). I am very grateful to everyone during my stay on SDU.
"A fantastic experience"
