"Amazing long term care and restoration following accident"

About: Glasgow Dental Hospital and School / Paediatric Dentistry - Level 5 Glasgow Dental Hospital and School / Restorative Dentistry - Level 6 and Level 7 Glasgow Dental Hospital and School / X-rays and scans

(as a parent/guardian),

Following an accident 10 years ago at the age of six my son started attending the dental hospital for trauma to his two front teeth.  At all stages he was involved in an age appropriate way and the staff were always kind, caring and nurturing.  Treatment was always fully explained and any decisions taken in consultation with my son always giving him options especially as he aged.

Having transitioned last year into the adult service, a process which was explained to him well in advance. A major decision (which he had been putting off) regarding the extraction of one of his front teeth had to be made.  I cannot praise the consultant (Beth) enough as she explained the situation directly, taking the time to talk over any concerns and focusing on the positive.  The result being that recently my son was fitted with a bridge which looks 100% better than the tooth which was there and has given him his smile back.

From beginning to end across the board the staff at the dental hospital from consultants to dentists to dental nurses to x-ray, photography have been kind, friendly, patient and not just focused on fixing his teeth but ensuring that he was comfortable and shown respect regardless of his age.  I would like to thank everyone who was involved in his care throughout the years.

Dear Happyc75,

Thank you for sharing such generous feedback.

I am sorry that your son has had to undergo such a lengthy treatment journey following his accident. Dental trauma and extraction of a front tooth is very upsetting. I am sure this has been a difficult time for you both.

Many children and young people that require complex care have to be supported by the team in Restorative Dentistry when they reach age sixteen. I know this can be an uncertain time especially when relationships are well established with the Paediatric team. It is wonderful to hear this was so well managed for your son.

It is very important to us that our patients feel safe, respected and listened to, regardless of age. I am so pleased this was your experience. I will be delighted to share your exceptionally kind comments with all of the teams mentioned and I wish you both well.

Kindest regards,

Fiona
