I had a complicated enough pregnancy and was admitted for 6 days prior to giving birth. I asked repeatedly for a c section what jock would have resolved the risk for which I was admitted but was ignored. I had different plans given to me by different doctors each day which often contradicted what other doctors had said. My own opinion or choices were not sought.
I had gestational diabetes and my blood sugars were terribly managed with tests and insulin losses or given very late. I ended up insisting on doing my own medication. I didn’t have a discharge meeting. I was sent home with a large bag of medication and no advice on how to administer the injections or explanations as to why I had to take them for longer.
My notes were incorrect, stating I had PPH and a cat 1 section. Tissue was removed during my section and I still don’t know what this tissue was. My son’s notes say that his discharge checks were carried out at 5am and my consent was given. My son was with me at that time and no consent was sought.
During my pregnancy I needed an iron infusion which was given too late and I’m still suffering with low iron almost a year later. My GP said she was surprised I was not given a blood transfusion as I lost a lot of blood. Honestly there were so few positives about my birth experience that I struggle to recall them.
