"It felt like an excuse"

About: Talking Therapies Doncaster

(as a service user),

I feel overlooked and insignificant due to twice being referred back to primary care. The 1st time was a massive cop out as they've read on my file I once experienced DV, and this was used as the reason to refer me back to the GP even though it was unrelated. It felt like an excuse.

After discussing this, I had a 2nd call and again referred back to my GP - however the referral is now due to my emotions. As explained on the call ... I am suicidal, I believe I have BPD, I feel that I'm ruining not only my life but the lives of people around me and I'd like a proper diagnosis. They never once explained that primary care is back to square 1.

I feel the service uses whatever get-out they can.

Hi Footballch66,

Thank you for reaching out and contacting us, I am really sorry to hear about your experience of services. From your message it is disappointing to hear that you feel overlooked and insignificant and that you feel that you keep getting returned to square one. For the suicidal thoughts I would like to provide the RDaSH crisis line telephone number: 0800 804 8999. This is a 24 hour number.

I am Tim Godley and work as the Team Manager for Doncaster Talking Therapies within the Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust.

Within your care opinion it is not clear whether the feedback relates to Talking Therapies or another RDASH service. I would like to provide you with the link to the Talking Therapies website for an overview of the service: https://talkingtherapies.rdash.nhs.uk/about-nhs-doncaster-talking-therapies/.

RDASH Talking Therapies, previously known as Improving Access to Psychological Therapies, provides talking therapies to adults who are experiencing common mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and stress within primary care. From your message if you presented with being suicidal, this should be escalated to the crisis team and for the borderline personality disorder this should be either the Primary Care Mental Health Hub or Community Mental Health Team depending on the assessment. Within the care opinion it mentions being referred back to primary care and am unsure if this is just with the GP or whether it is to the Primary Care Mental Health Hub. Although Talking Therapies work with many patients, there are presentations and conditions which we are not the right service for and we are unable to diagnose, but I would expect therapists following assessment to refer if required onwards where appropriate and not just back to the GP.

I would like to explore further what has happened in relation to RDASH Talking Therapies, if you would like to contact me via telephone 03000 211556 or email rdash.nhsdoncaster-tt@nhs.net, I can look into this further for Talking Therapies.

I would also like to provide you with the Patient Advice and Liaison Service contact details who could explore all contact with RDASH services and not just Talking Therapies. They can also support you and resolution.

The Patient Advice and Liaison Service telephone number is:

Phone: 0800 015 4334

Email: rdash.pals.email@nhs.net

Address is:

PALS Coordinator
Chestnut View
Woodfield Park
Tickhill Road
Balby
Doncaster
DN4 8QN

Kind Regards

Tim Godley
