"My mum's care"

About: Ayr Ayrshire Hospice Biggart Hospital / Care of the Elderly Medicine

(as a relative),

Firstly my sister and I would like to thank everyone involved within the McMillan Ward at Biggart Hospital.

My mum had breast cancer and dementia and was admitted to the ward last year after a consultation with Dr Nicol at Ayr hospital.

My mum had a complex cancer breast wound where over the past 4 months the care and service my mum received was outstanding they treated my mum with dignity and nothing was a problem to staff

At no time did my family have to consult with Dr Nicol as staff had the answers to any questions we addressed.

My mum was well cared for and made the staff laugh with her pranks and hiding of food and my memory will be of her sitting with two other patients having a coffee morning and natter in the ward around a bed having a tea break

I have had a lot of laughs when visiting the ward with staff and my mum and even when they were busy they still had time to check in

My mum passed away peacefully with my sister and myself with her in a lovely and peaceful environment within the comfy room and it was a lovely way which I can only thank your staff for to c my mum at peace finally

Thank you to everyone with the McMillan Ward I’m not going to give names as everyone within the ward is outstanding and compassionate at what they do

So thank you McMillan Ward from the bottom of our hearts for your professional support care and laughs during a sad time but please in hard times continue to deliver your excellent service with the NHS Ayrshire and Arran

I would also like to thank the district Nurses who tended to my mum at home prior to her hospital admission especially Lorraine who was very supportive from Tams Brig Surgery, and Helen from the Hospice

Dear Indusst83

Thank you. My name is Karen Wilson and I am the Clinical Nurse Manager for Biggart Hospital.

Firstly, let me say thank you so much for taking the time to post such a wonderful accolade during this very emotional time in your life.

I am so very sorry to hear of your mums passing but it gladdens my heart to hear that we made not only mums final days comfortable and safe but that of you and your sister.

We strive where possible to ensure we deliver person and family centred care to everyone in their hour of need and I am so glad that you were able to seek some comfort from this. The precious memories you hold of your mum will keep you strong in the days and months to come and we shall hold you all in our thoughts.

Take care of each other and hold on to the memories of your lovely mum.

Thank you once again for thinking of us at this time.

Best wishes and love

Karen

Hi, thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback to the services and professionals involved in your mum's care. I will pass your message on to Helen, one of our Specialist Palliative Care Nurses. Your mum sounds like an amazing lady and Karen's response captures my own thoughts.

Kind regards

Chris
