For the last year or more my dad has been cared for and having his legs and feet dressed by NHS Fife Podiatry service. When he was an in patient they attended to him, when he was home and able he visited the clinic at Whytemans Brae Hospital. If none of the above then they visited him at home twice weekly. What a continued dedicated service they run. They got to know my dad very well and they got to know him. My dad developed a special bond with the staff. He would sing to them, tell them jokes and they always had a laugh. They understood when he was frustrated that he was becoming less independent and was aware when he was becoming unwell and required hospital admission. They were always professional, knowledgeable, kind and caring.
My dad never attended the doctors for over 40 years or was in hospital, until he stubbed his toe on the end of his bed. Mild diabetes and then everything went crazy.
My dad passed away late February this year from sepsis and chronic osteomyelitis secondary to type II diabetes. I don’t believe he would have survived this long if it was not for the care, compassion and the dedication of the podiatry team.
"Always professional, knowledgeable, kind and caring"
