I attended A&E on the 26th of March following a call to 111 and a discussion with iHeart. While the four-hour wait was understandably frustrating, I recognise that this is a national issue—and I wanted to take a moment to thank all the staff for their care and dedication.
During my time in the waiting room, I witnessed staff managing some very challenging situations with professionalism and compassion. Everyone I encountered was kind, calm, and clearly working incredibly hard under pressure. From the friendly lady who took my bloods, to those monitoring blood pressure, and the doctor who carried out a thorough examination—I truly felt I was in capable hands.
It’s disheartening how quickly some people forget, and how sadly it often takes a crisis like a pandemic to remind us just how fortunate we are to have access to a health service that is free at the point of need.
To the team working that evening, and to every NHS staff member who works through the nights and days to keep us safe and well—thank you. Even when frustrations are voiced and expectations are high, please know that what you do matters. You make a real difference.
