I have had various bad experiences with my GP surgery and tried four times to complain to them twice using their online complaint form and twice I have asked if I can make an appointment to discuss my issues. The online forms were ignored and the two members of staff I spoke to told me someone would contact me which never happened.
I went to the surgery and demanded that I wanted to speak to someone. A senior member of staff took me to a side room and I told them how angry I was that my health was suffering because of what I felt was my GP's neglect and how the stress and worry was causing me to be unwell and all this person kept saying was sorry that there was nothing they could do and sorry that I felt the way I did.
I had already complained to the ICB and they did tell me that they had been in touch with my GP and that someone would contact me , eventually after emailing the ICB several times I did eventually get contacted by a doctor at the surgery. They contacted me by email and one which I couldn't reply to and all this doctor discussed was my medication, not the fact that during an appointment I was told by a doctor that they couldn't check my blood pressure due to their equipment being stolen, or the fact that a persistent cough I still have and have had for over a year with two different doctors opposing diagnosis I am still not sure if I have COPD or not. I have coughing spasms and sometimes cough that much I am almost sick and always have really bad stomach acid which I don't know whether or not is all connected.
I am disabled due to a herniated disc. I slipped my disc 20 years ago and the disc ripped, trapping my sciatic nerve in my left leg leaving me struggling with pain to walk and recently started to get sciatica in my right side as well as knee pain which I have never had in my right side and so I rang my GP for an appointment. I was told someone would ring me during that day. I waited and waited and no one rang and then I got a text message saying an appointment had been made for me almost three weeks later at a surgery to see a physio a lot further away from my home than the other three Teldoc surgeries closest to where I live.
When the doctor's text message which was quite short and felt not very personal although it did say accept our sincere apologies, it ended basically with if your not happy with the text message you can contact The parliamentary Health service Ombudsman, with the GP knowing full well that the ombudsman will only investigate the most serious cases it seems they can get away with treating patients badly like second class citizens and there is nothing you can do about it.
There just doesn't seem to be any one service available to help NHS patients hold GP surgeries to account, even when a patient's health is suffering. Even the one member of staff who was supporting me and pushing for me to complain about my GP surgery was giving me the details of the ICB and the CQC, which I had already complained to. It seems even they weren't happy about the way the GP surgery was running from day to day and the way patients were being short changed.
