At my appointment at North Tees and Hartlepool due to heavy irregular periods the consultant said I probably needed HRT progesterone therapy to regulate my menstrual cycle and prevent a thickening endometrium. Said they wanted blood test and CT scan first. Said they would contact me by telephone to discuss treatment shortly after scans.
They didn't telephone me. Instead they wrote a letter saying they would discuss matters at next appointment but then cancelled the appointment. It was rebooked for 3 months later but at this appointment they still didn't give HRT, said they wanted to try a treatment to push me into menopause instead. The menopause drug made me really ill. Said I didn't want to continue on it and wanted some HRT. Again I was told I had to wait to see them next which wasn't for another 9 months. Then when I finally saw them, they said they don't personally prescribe HRT and they would ask my GP to do it.
I had rang their secretary multiple times over the course of the year saying I was really struggling with menopause symptoms and needed some HRT and each time the secretary apologised and said they have just said have to wait to see them next, which I feel wasn't taking into account the seriousness that I had been suffering.
The secretary was apologetic and empathetic but the consultant seemed uncaring. I feel that the gynaecologist didn't understand how ill menopause can affect patients. I feel they could have at least liaised with my GP about the problems I had been having and asked the GP to assess me rather than me waiting over a year for a prescription of HRT.
"Gynaecology consultant unhelpful and poor attitude"
