As a first time Mum to be, this was a overwhelming experience that came with many questions as can be expected.
My assigned midwife has been supportive with these questions and queries and I cannot fault the rest of the team at Inverurie Maternity Unit as when I've called to query something, they have always been helpful.
Unfortunately, I have felt a bit forgotten by my midwife as the majority of my appointments were conducted by students. While I appreciate students need to learn, at no point was I asked for consent to have the students in my appointment nor conducting various medical procedures/checks. Upon one of my appointments, I was left with just the student doing my appointment and there were no signs of my midwife. I did raise this with the student, specifying that there were some medication I needed to have reordered/to discuss these in more detail (which would have required a qualified midwife to be present). The reply I got was that they would speak with my midwife and get back to me - leaving me days without medication for certain symptoms. As you may appreciate, this caused discomfort for part of my pregnancy.
This type of experience has not been as positive as I feel a first pregnancy should be and it had taken a bit of a toll on me, in terms of the trust and support for any further pregnancies.
