"Outstanding care"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Gynaecology (Ward 32)

(as a service user),

I was recently admitted to ward 32 in extreme pain following a ruptured ectopic. Nurse Olivia and HCSW Clare were amazing, I cannot believe how great they were. Being in extreme pain and feeling unwell they managed to make me feel like they were going to fix everything, I couldn’t have felt safer at such a scary time. Throughout their shift they consistently checked on me and really went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and looked after!

Dr Haworth scanned me and confirmed I would require surgery, she was amazing! Compassionate, empathetic and explained everything that would happen. As the consultant on call, Dr Haworth stayed for my surgery and I can’t thank her enough as I was scared and knowing she was in charge made me feel safer!

Throughout my stay in ward 32 the staff were excellent! The ward has a warm inviting feeling to it which is a lovely environment to recover in! Every staff member I encountered were so friendly and caring. Nurse Debbie really helped so much when I experienced horrific gas pain the following day from my surgery and she ensured to check on me frequently throughout my stay! Student nurse Sonia was super lovely attentive and knowledgeable - she will make an amazing nurse when qualified!

I would also like to highlight a nurse who attended ward 32 from the gyn ward at another hospital to help with staffing the day I was discharged, I can’t remember her name but again she was so lovely and caring!

Thanks to everyone who was a part of my care, I’m forever grateful to you all!

Dear Campbha796,

I am so sorry to hear that you suffered an ectopic pregnancy. Thank you for taking the time to offer feedback following this sad, and I'm sure stressful, time.

The website for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust below may offer you some support:

www.ectopic.org.uk

I am glad the team made you feel safe whilst you were in extreme pain and feeling unwell, and that you felt that they were going to fix everything, I am delighted to hear that throughout their shift the team consistently checked on you and you felt they really went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and looked after. That is praise indeed and the standard of care we strive to deliver.

I'm glad you found the ward has a warm inviting feeling to it and you found it a lovely environment to recover in.

I will ensure I share this with the team including Dr Haworth - who you found compassionate & empathetic, Olivia, Claire, Debbie and our student nurse Sonia who you found super lovely, attentive and knowledgeable. She will be so pleased to hear you think she will make an amazing nurse when she is qualified. Kerri-Anne was helping out from QEUH - I will share this with her too.

I am grateful to you for sharing your experience and I wish you a gentle recovery.

Kind regards,

Nikki
