(as a service user),

Following my wife's serious mental health issues during 2024 I experienced severe anxiety and depression. I was assessed by hospital at home, local mental health team and social services plus after 14 hours in Worcester Hospital AandE I was admitted to Jenny Lind Ward at Hereford County Hospital.  I was treated for anxiety and depression with associated mild psychosis. This is the first time I have experienced mental issues that required treatment.

Following 175 days in hospital, various medications and 9 episodes of ECT (during February and March of 2025) under Section 3 Mental Health Act(beginning November 24). I was declared "well" in early March 2025.  I was taken off Section 3 in early March and discharged mid March.

Very detailed and thorough letters from doctors and ward managers set out my condition on and admission and progress to wellness.

After discharge to home I was visited by both Hospital at Home and the local mental health nurse.

I was made to feel cared for and felt happy with the outcome of the two visits so far.

My wife is now well, and we are both adjusting well to being home together again.

I am returning to the activities I enjoyed since my retirement from full-time work in 2014.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide personalised feedback about you and your wife's experiences of being cared for by both our community and inpatient mental health services.

It is so nice for the teams to receive positive feedback about how you felt cared for when you were unwell, it is even nicer to hear that you are able to engage in and enjoy activities now you are back home.

I hope that you will continue to feel supported by our services during your ongoing recovery at home.

Kind regards

Mel Jones,

Ward Manager, Jenny Lind Ward.
