"Difficulty using the toilet independently"

About: General practices in Tayside

(as a relative),

I recently visited the GP with my elderly mother who is a wheelchair user (and also had a hip replacement and struggles with mobility and transferring from seating to standing.)

The surgery has an accessible toilet. However, although there is lots of space in the bathroom and handrails on both sides of the toilet, it is still difficult for her (and I suspect others) to use this independently because the toilet is so low and she doesn't have enough upper body strength to pull up from such a low seat using the handrails.

I was wondering whether you would consider getting a raised toilet seat which can be attached (and easily unattached for cleaning). This would make a world of difference and actually be even more accessible, as there are many non-wheelchair users that have mobility issues. And it would be a relatively inexpensive one-off cost

Thank you

Good morning

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent visit to the General Practice (GP). Feedback is very valuable to all areas of the NHS, and I'm sorry to hear of the difficulty that your mother experienced. Unfortunately, GP practices are not part of Care Opinion at this time, as each GP Practice is an independent business. So that they can see your feedback and suggestion, we would recommend that you feedback your mother's experience directly to the practice to allow your suggestion to be considered. The Practice Manager can give you with details of how to provide this feedback to them, as per their Complaints and Feedback Policy.

Kind regards

Susan
