"Department closed!"

About: Tameside General Hospital / X-ray and Scans

(as a service user),

GP referred me for x-ray. After 10 days phoned up to be told it's a walk-in service. So no appointment available and told to turn up between 9-5. So turned up and note on door saying closed today. No advice on on-line, no opening times, disconnected when phoning, a thoroughly appalling effort from NHS. How inconvenient and inconsiderate considering ill people have to labour their way there to be told closed today.

I am sorry to hear about your experience when attending for an x-ray. Communication regarding our out-patient x-ray service has been shared with our colleagues in GP practice and I'm sorry you weren't made aware of this. On occasion staffing is such that the out patient service cannot be run from that department however, a poster should have been displayed directing anyone who attends at this time to the lower ground floor x-ray department where their x-ray could be performed. I'm sorry that this was not your experience.

Please be assured that feedback received is reviewed and shared with the leadership team for the department.

Though the experience you have shared was not positive, I would like to thank you for raising your concerns. As an organisation we use all patient feedback to support learning and for continuous improvement.

If you require further assistance regarding your experience or wish to share additional concerns, please feel free to reach out to our Quality and Patient Experience team via email at QualityandPatientExperience@tgh.nhs.uk or our PALS and Complaints Team at 0161 922 4466 or via email at palsandcomplaints@tgh.nhs.uk. A team member will be available to assist you in addressing this matter.
