Attended an appointment recently after nearly a year's wait. I was actually excited as I had been offered a cancellation slot at short notice. I assumed this would be the start of treatment and investigation into my pain.
I had 2 private ultrasounds previously which showed a swollen ovary and fluid, and increased blood flow. I went to my GP, who referred me for an NHS scan, which I waited 9 months for on the urgent list. I had my scan in November 2024. My left ovary couldn't be visualised due to bowel gas.
At my most recent visit, the consultant said this scan was normal. I challenged the consultant and said the ovary couldn't be seen and they replied that it must be a bowel problem. I said no, it's my ovary but they were adamant. I asked what they think may be wrong with my bowel and they told me they weren't a bowel expert.
To say I'm upset is a massive understatement! The consultant completely dismissed me and barely let me speak. I found them so cold, no empathy and was completely uninterested in anything I had to say. I offered to show the consultant the images of my private scan and they refused, saying it doesn't matter.
So now I'm discharged from clinic with a bowel problem and nowhere to turn. I should add I have absolutely no bowel symptoms whatsoever. I have been in pain for over a year and this is the care I've received. I find it shocking that us women are left to rot and suffer .
"I felt dismissed"
