I found the staff obtrusive at every single point. It came across like there was a don’t care attitude. The consultants I had contact with were rude and one particular consultant I found aggressive and condescending. They walked away while I was still talking to them.
My allocated consultant talked down to me and discussed sensitive issues within an open ward for other patients and visitors to hear. They also recorded an incorrect diagnosis and information on my medical record.
When treatment was needed and the ongoing issue was reported, no treatment was provided, leaving me to be very fearful and concerned.
One medical individual made the assumption that I would probably not want a cannula inserted, therefore no treatment. Never discussed it with me.
Another medic, never met them, made the assumption that I had a completely different condition because of the medication I was on was specifically used for that, they recorded that I had this condition, but didn’t discuss with me what the medication was being prescribed for, which was a different condition and being used as an adjunct.
They seemed unable to diagnose a patient with a correct diagnosis when all the evidence is there in front of them. When I queried this, it was ignored. They refused to refer to specialties, do tests, provide support or a treatment plan, and discharged with a chronic illness with new complications, without any support, referrals or follow up.
I now feel that the wrong information is in my medical records. Because of this my condition has deteriorated immensely and my life has been completely turned upside down.
The HCAs showed no respect, made up observations, argued with the patients and I didn't see any basic care being provided, such as help with washing.
The HCAs would sit around the ward for most of the day chatting between themselves. They would make derogatory remarks about patients within hearing distance. Swear on the ward and spend time playing on their phones. I witnessed one staff member continuously steal biscuits from the tea trolley. HCAs would tell you to make your own bed. Leave full bed pans for hours before emptying.
RNs recorded false information on my record and continuously made mistakes in dispensing medication, leave you waiting for hours for pain medication that has been prescribed. One RN broke my confidentiality, disclosing medical information with someone, not medical, when I had not given them my agreement to do so. RNs would consistently ignore any request you made, especially if it was to speak to their manager.
The occupational health advisor, never met them, accessed my records without my permission and made a false statement on my medical record. Decided I didn’t need any occupational help, I have had to purchase all equipment that I require when the NHS should provide equipment up to £1000 for help with daily living.
The physiotherapist falsely recorded in my medical record that they had a discussion with me about my health and I gave them permission to do so. I spoke to them for about 30/90 seconds, and this included demonstrating my gait. They made the decision that I did not need physiotherapy at all. I blame the physio whole heartedly for a serious injury I received a few weeks later that could have been prevented had I received the necessary physiotherapy that I needed, and for the extended traumatic and distressing time I spent on Kenn Ward because I was advised to stay as an inpatient for their assessment!
There were so many, many issues, unpleasant instances on this ward experienced to discuss over what happened in just a few days. I found the staff to be very unprofessional, unsafe, have no empathy, biased and make incorrect decisions and diagnosis. I feel like they failed to look after my adequately, and I feel the consultants did not follow NICE pathways. The doctors were not visible or accessible. I was on the ward for over 24 hours before seeing a doctor, was not seen during the ward round that happened during this time.
Finally, a junior doctor turned up, gave me a 10-minute lecture on an illness I didn’t have, without asking me a single question, told me I had to suck it up and left.
I feel extremely angry at the way I was treated on Kenn Ward, and that these individuals can falsely record information on your records, regardless of the repercussions it has on the patient, behave badly towards patients, and treat you with little respect.
