"Birth and postpartum care"

About: Community Services - Eastern / Maternity Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Maternity

(as the patient),

I have had such a positive experience with the birth of my first baby who was big at 9lbs 12oz’s!

Although there was lots of concerns around risks of a bigger baby the entire team would communicate these risks to me in a informative and supportive manner and I felt my birth preferences were heard and I was supported throughout - even when my preferences weren’t completely in line with guidance.

I was supported to be able to get in the water to labour which was really important to me.

Although our delivery ended with forceps in theatre I felt very included in the decision making process - I was involved and aware of what was happening rather than things just happening to me.

A big thank you to the entire team on labour ward, especially my midwife Leah - I’ve come away feeling so positive about the entire day.

3 days postpartum I needed to pop back in to triage for a Dr review due to some bladder issues and my time in triage was again so positive.

I felt listened to and well cared for, I even got fed (which early days with a new born is an absolute treat)

I was seen quickly and left feeling reassured and very positive.

Thanks to Leo and Jess for your support and the Drs who reviewed and reassured me.

For most of my antenatal care and now postnatal care I’ve been under the Elder team. Their knowledge and expertise has been so appreciated especially supporting me with decision making regarding my baby measuring big. A special thank you to Nicky and Emily who have seen me the most and have always made me feel so supported.

Dear foxtrottq68

Thankyou so much for this lovely feedback. It is so great to hear you had such a positive experience. It is really important to all the team in maternity to ensure we are informative and support everyone's birth preferences, so to hear this is your experience of our service is amazing.

I will ensure the whole team on Labour ward and Triage and the Elder team who looked after you antenatally and postnatally receive this lovely feedback as it always gives us a boost to know we are delivering a maternity service that ensures you feel heard, and supported.

Thankyou and congratulations on your not so small baby.
