"Excellent service in Urgent Treatment Centre "

About: Lister Hospital

I attended Lister A&E on Monday 31st March, I needed stitches removing after I broke my leg on holiday in Austria and am on my way back home to the North West of England. Upon reading the Expected waiting time of over 10 hours, my heart sank, however I was immediately directed to the Urgent Treatment Centre, they even got a porter & wheelchair to take me to the UTC and was seen within 45 mins. The whole nursing and support staff were excellent, very supportive, reassuring, kind, sympathetic and extremely competent. Having received excellent care in Austria I was extremely proud of the service provided by Lister UTC, in particular the clinical nurse(tall, female, black hair in ponytail) and female in burgundy top (fellow skier) were fantastic. Unfortunately the service provided by the switchboard when I made enquiries prior to my visit was extremely poor, the female I spoke to was monosyllabic and at times inaudible in her responses, I was trying to make an appointment as I knew I didn’t need the emergency care of a very stretched A&E but did need my stitches removing and medication within a time limit. I am still exasperated by NHS processes as I’m still being told I need to physically present myself either at my GP or A&E when I get home to ‘get referred’ into the system before an orthopaedic specialist will check my recovery is as expected. ( I can provide names of the staff but unfortunately the review won’t be published if I do)
