My relative planned for a home birth but had to go to Raigmore for an emergency c section. Was well looked after by community midwives, paramedics and the labour and maternity ward.
The ward was not ideal for recovery as it was very noisy. There were simple things that would have allowed my relative to get more sleep, such as trolleys and beds which don't have noisy wheels and blood pressure monitors which don't beep when not in use. It would have also been useful to have a comfy spot for her partner to be in the ward as he was providing support for my relative's recovery - soothing the baby and changing nappies so she could rest.
Breastfeeding has been challenging. My relative has a forceful milk supply which the baby is struggling to cope with and causing the baby to vomit a lot. This has been really challenging, but there has been a lot of support from breastfeeding support lines, community midwives, health visitors and the lactation consultant at Dr Grays.
However for some reason we were left off the invite list for breastfeeding classes, and this would have been helpful.
