"Care for me as I have had a major cancer operation"

About: Community Therapy Services / Avon Valley

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus last year. I had lots of intense chemo and radiotherapy first. I then had a major operation in October 2024. I have had a few complications with eating, drinking, sickness, diarrhoea, losing lots of weight, tachycardia, sleeping difficulties as now have to sleep upright, and back pain; cannot now stand or walk for more than 10 minutes.

I was recommended by a friend to ask my GP to refer me to an Occupational Therapist for help. I have had the best help with Carla, she has been so kind. I now have 2 new OT pillows which help me stay upright in bed, much better night's sleep. I have a perch stool now in my kitchen so I can sit and prepare my family meals instead of not being able to stand. I have a new mattress support ordered and a bath handle ordered to help myself out of the bath.

All of these are so very helpful to me and have made a huge difference on my recovery. I am very grateful to Carla and am very glad that I have been put in touch with such a professional kind lady. Thank you Carla so very much.
