"GUM clinic royal hospital"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Genito-Urinary Medicine

(as a service user),

I went to the GUM clinic for an STI screening test, but also my hepatitis an and B vaccines. Process for both of them was really easy and I didn’t feel judged by any of the nurses which was really important. I am polyamorous and have multiple partners so it’s a common experience to be judged for that, but I didn’t have any of that from the nurses. I had my vaccines done with a nurse called Aisling in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. She was fantastic and it was a really easy process. I hate needles but she was super great.

I’m really passionate about sexual health and safe sex and inquired about jobs within the sector and she was able to signpost me to their job listing website which I thought was fantastic. The whole team was excellent and even when I was in the waiting room staff made me feel at ease and did things like compliment my outfit on separate occasions when I was there. Very, very positive experience.

I can’t do my SH 24 tests by myself because I’m afraid of pricking myself with the needle so it was very nice to know I was able to come in and get it done in person in a safe welcoming environment.
