"OT was very friendly and calm"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Occupational Therapy

(as a service user),

My autistic daughter met OT Alison during her pre op hospital stay .

Alison was very friendly and calm and this helped. The day was otherwise very stressful with so many professionals popping in and asking my daughter questions .

We  actually discharged ourselves home to get lunch and some time out (which was my daughter's idea) which also helped. I was thinking maybe this could be offered to other autistic youngsters, too, if it helps them.

Dear Rucki,

Thank you for your feedback and for telling us about the support you received from Alison in occupational therapy during your daughter’s pre-op hospital stay.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, although was sorry to hear that your day was so stressful. I am pleased that you found Alison’s calm and friendly approach helpful, and I will be delighted to share this feedback with her.

Your suggestions about how this experience could be improved for other children and young people have been shared with the wider clinical team, and I hope we will all be able to learn from your experience.

Thank you again for taking the time to share this with us.

Kind regards

Catherine McDerment

Lead Occupational Therapist
