"Voice loss and recovery"

About: Western General Hospital / Speech and Language Therapy

(as the patient),

I had an extended period of recurrent laryngitis due to repeated illness, stress and overuse of my voice. I’m a professional singer. I lost a lot of work as a result and it was a very distressing and stressful time.

Following a laryngoscope, I had some sessions of speech and language therapy with Georgina, which enabled my recovery pretty much immediately after the first session - I rapidly improved with the exercises she gave me and I made a full recovery in time for my next contract. I use the exercises and advice in my daily practice and vocal care now, and it has really improved the quality of my voice and vocal technique for both speaking and singing. I also really appreciated the emotionally supportive environment of the sessions - I felt understood and safe. I’m now fully back to work and in better form than ever, which was something I couldn’t have imagined 3 months ago. Thank you!
