"Everything seemed rushed"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Radiology

CT chest, abdomen and pelvis. One of the worst experiences of my 5 months of illness.

The department was cold and my veins were collapsed. I asked if I could have a chance to get my arms warm. I said I had blood taken a few days before on the left side and offered my right arm but was told left arm was fine. Everything seemed rushed although no other patients were waiting. The cannula was inserted but as soon as the scan started it was very painful and the scan continued despite my cries of pain. At no stage was I asked about my current health. I was told to put my arms above my head which I struggle with and was ‘helped’ with this till I yelped. At no stage was an apology given when it was clear these had extravasated. It seemed as though the sooner I was out of the department the better. I cried on the way home!

Many apologies for the delay in responding to your feedback, I have just returned from annual leave.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback regarding your recent CT Abdo Pelvis exam, I am very sorry to hear this did not go well and you found it very upsetting.

I would like to sincerely apologise, this is not the experience we endeavour for our patients. I fully appreciate some of our exams can be tricky and uncomfortable for patients in order to obtain the correct requested images. We would never wish for any patient to leave the department feeling upset.
