My mum is in her 80s and was recently admitted to ward B via Mater ED with severe shortness of breath . It was very scary for her and me!
The staff in the Mater ED acted quickly and calmly and provided constant reassurance while treating her and quickly got her O2 sats back up. Her blood results were back quickly, she was treated with steroids ,antibiotics and magnesium drip and was transferred to ward within about 4.5 hours.
They explained everything as they were doing, which helped to keep her calm. Excellent care provided under such constant pressures!
I would also like to mention the excellent aftercare she has received following a previous admission from the respiratory community nurses (especially Pauline) and respiratory OT from Shankill Wellbeing Centre.
COPD can be very frightening, and knowing they are there for support provides great reassurance 🙂 Thank you
