"Outstanding care during my pregnancy and birth"

About: Maternity care / Labour suite maternity Maternity care / Maternity care (Ward 31) Royal Alexandra Hospital / Community Maternity Unit

(as a service user),

Having had a difficult experience of labour and birth within another unit in Summer 2023, which left me traumatised, I was terrified to find myself unexpectedly pregnant again a year later.

I decided to have our youngest (and last) baby at Paisley Maternity and could honestly not fault a single aspect of my care from start to finish!

My community midwife Vicky was amazing through my antenatal care, the friendly chit chat at appointments really put my mind at ease.

Dr Hutchison and the team in the high risk clinic were fab too, putting a plan together, checking in on not only the physical aspects of my pregnancy but the mental load due to my previous experience.

I ended up admitted through triage to ward 31 2 days before my planned induction and absolutely every person I met during that time was kind, empathetic and went above and beyond - what an incredible team!

During my labour I was looked after by Gemma and Alana - the incredible student midwife who eventually caught our baby girl. Unfortunately things went a bit south following the birth, ending in me having a trip to theatre - having had a previous traumatic experience that could have been really challenging mentally but the team were so calm and efficient in managing the situation and getting me sorted and back with my husband and baby as quickly as possible. I can't remember all of the names of the hoard of people who ended up in the delivery room but the Midwife (I'm sure her name was Kat), Registrar Ainsley and Anaesthetist Keenan who cared for and reassured me in that vulnerable time were absolute angels. I'd also decided to deliver and cause a drama just before handover - for that I apologise!

Gemma and Alana came round to theatre before I was put off to sleep then returned to reassure my husband which was so kind - at the time he was distraught and I was more worried about him than myself!

Recovery staff were incredible too, providing me with equipment to hand express as baby wasn't latching.

I eventually went home the following day, baby and I are doing fantastically well, and I honestly feel that my experience was so so positive (despite my little drama) that it's gone a way towards healing the mental wounds left by my previous birth.

Thank you all!
