"Poor treatment and attitude from a staff member"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Acute/Medical Receiving Unit (50,51,53)

(as a service user),

I was admitted to receive treatment for an overdose. I was very distressed and didn't cooperate at first as I didn't want the antidote so I kept taking the drip out and/or pausing the treatment. I felt the staff member I was dealing with had a terrible attitude. I am disgusted with how they treated me how rude they were. Because I initally didn't take the treatment they got angry with me and was so rude. I said to them I don't want the treatment until I receive an antiemetic as it causes nausea. They said that it doesn't make people feel sick and I said it does. I also asked them if they have you ever had this treatment, to which they replied with no. I said then that you can't tell me that it doesn't make a person sick.

The following day I was yelled at for walking up and down the ward (I had asked other staff if that was ok, and they approved). They scolded me for simply walking to stretch my legs (I am disabled with mobility issues). They told me off and I broke down. I ended up crying- I stormed into the bathroom to cry about how they treated me).

I left the ward prematurely and very distressed. I was disgusted with how I was treated. I thought this person was the most rude and incompetent staff member I have come across and has terrible communication skills between other staff and the patient.

Overall I am totally dissatisfied with my experience and felt even more suicidal because of them. I witnessed the same staff member leaving another patient almost falling out of the bed - didn't even attempt to put the side railing up to keep them safe.

I think this staff member needs to improve their communication, attitude and approach to patients.

I am still processing how I was treated and trying to not become more suicidal and end up back in the hospital.

The other staff were all great- no complaints. Just this particular staff member who seemed to have no clue at all.
