"Getting over my fear of hospitals"

About: York Hospital / Accident and emergency Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

For as long as I can remember I’ve had an irrational fear of anything relating to hospitals or healthcare, however this was the first experience I’ve not minded (no one wants to be in hospital lol).

The ambulance people were rather polite and nice, as well as very clear. Then when I got the York Hospital I was triaged within 4hours and then assessed within an hour after.

Sister Anita was the nurse who assessed me, and what a nurse she is! She made me feel comfortable and distracted me during each procedure, she was very kind and had a great personality to match it. I didn’t think it was possible to enjoy getting bloods taken? However due to the kind hearted nature of Sister Anita, I didn’t feel like I was in a hospital getting my bloods taken, I felt rather comfortable and happy.

She was the nicest NHS staff member I’ve ever interacted with, even with my previous experience in York hospital being a negative one (involving me discharging myself at 3am), she has managed to discredit any negative assumptions I had about this specific hospital via her nature and care. I would recommend Sister Anita’s care to anyone!
