"Support for our son"

About: Countywide Community Care Service Delivery Unit / Wheelchair Service

(as a parent/guardian),

Our son is very physically capable but has autism and very challenging behaviour which is why his school initiated the wheelchair services referral for us.

Although it took quite some time for the referral to go through, we arrived for our appointment (almost an hour early).

Spoke to reception who in turn checked with the staff that they would be able to see us early which was a great relief as our son did not sit still in the waiting area the 10 minutes we waited.

We met with Joanne, one of the occupational therapists. Immediately she knew the referral was due to our son's challenging behaviour. She measured him up for a wheelchair, advised there is a 4-week waiting period for chairs to be ordered but said she would also check the warehouse to see if there was anything available now. Joanne found a wheelchair in the warehouse that is in near perfect condition which made us exceptionally happy.

She showed us how to fold down the wheelchair and how to put it back together.

We have come away from this meeting earlier than expected, with a wheelchair for our son which will now enable us as a family to now go out as a complete family. Needless to say both parents are over the moon with your services and both very emotional that so many opportunities have finally become available to us as a family. Thank you all so much.
