I was living at home alone and things weren't going well. I struggled to engage with my supporting staff as my mental health declined to the point of suicidal thoughts. Occupational Therapy (OT) continued to support me during this time till I was admitted to Kylepark Assessment and Treatment unit.
During my time in the unit, the nursing staff were so supportive, assisting me with my needs and just being someone to talk to and reassure me during the day. OT continued to support me during my stay in hospital, encouraging me to make choices and providing activity and cooking sessions to make my time in hospital be like home to keep me using my skills rather than laying in bed.
OT provided reassurance and assisted me in planning my move back to the community. OT accompanied me on weekly outings and reintroduced me to activities that I had fallen away from. When my support staff were allocated, OT worked jointly to build relationships and continue with the positive structure that had been set. My future is now looking bright I have moved to my new home where my support staff are very positive and encouraging.
I am so happy to have achieved all my goals and more. Thank you to all the staff at Kylepark, Kirklands and the OT staff for all the support and encouragement and for believing in me even when things were not going well. I am appreciative of my support staff who have continued to support me to make my life enjoyable again.
