"PTU appointment"

About: Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick children / Out patients

(as a service user),

I have just left the PTU with my child and I have to say I think it is appalling how the staff in your hospital are treated. There was only one member of staff covering infusions,  One of the the lovely  nurses had to go home sick. Other nurses did tend to be on the ward but no help seemed to be available.

PTU have been delivering our care for over 2 years now and every time we attend our appointments it always seems to be one person left to take the brunt of the workload. We want her to know we appreciate her, we thank her and we are so so thankful for her and the rest of PTU. I think it is terrible how staff can be treated like this.

My name is Sinead Duffin and I am the Service Manager for PTU in RBHSC. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of PTU when you attended on Friday with your child. I am sorry that you had a poor experience and I am very sorry to read about your concerns. The PTU is a relatively new department and has been very successful in providing a service that is best suited to the needs of patients and families. We are currently in the process of reviewing staffing within the PTU to help manage the increasing demands for the service and to support the staff.

I will pass on your comments to the staff in PTU, I know that they will be delighted to receive your appreciation of the care that they continue to provide.
