"Being diagnosed with cancer"

About: Rapid Response Teams / Rapid response team Derry/ Londonderry

(as a service user),

I was rushed to a&e in Feb 2025, and diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma. When I was discharged from hospital, I was still unwell but a lot better than what I had been. After 3 weeks in hospital it still didn’t hit me how unwell I was, I almost died.

Hello Annw68,

My name is Tina McCauley and I am clinical coordinator with the rapid response team in Gransha Park.

Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.

On so many occasions when someone is admitted to hospital we [as a patient ] don't realize how very unwell and vulnerable we are. Sometimes it is only afterwards that we take the time to reflect on our journey and then the gravity of what we have undergone and what we have been diagnosed with, can hit us.

As a healthcare provider, I sincerely hope that your health care journey to date,is one where you have experienced supportive and compassionate care. I have shared your story with my team and we all acknowledge how very daunting ill health and treatment regimes can be, as well as how very vulnerable this journey can make all those on that pathway feel.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like extra support [02871864342 ].I am very happy to discuss signposting to relevant services which I think would be of benefit, or if you would like this care opinion shared with others.

Kind Regards

Tina
