In April I was invited for a Colonoscopy as follow up to a surgical procedure the previous year. I previously had a pre op phone call in March, in which I was advised about the procedure given instructions regarding my medication and told about blood tests I required prior to my treatment.
I was also advised that I would be required to take a bowel preparation and it would be despatched to me, everything was arranged smoothly and the bowel prep arrived all in good time, this pack also included dietary advice and information on the procedure.
On the day of my procedure I was required to arrive at 0945am for pre op checks, I arrived early and checked in after a couple of minutes I was asked by a nurse to go for the pre op checks , BP, temperature, weight etc was shown to a changing room where I was able to change into my gown in prep for the op I then returned to the treatment room where the nurse inserted a needle to my arm in prep for sedation, this was done very professionally with a minimal amount of pain. I was then offered a seat in the waiting room, a Doctor Byrne then arrived went through the usual pre op information about risks etc but at the same time giving reassurance about the procedure and I then signed the consent and we moved to the operating room.
On arrival I was greeted by at least 3 nurses who got me onto the couch made me feel at ease and feel relaxed, Doctor Byrne then proceeded to administer sedative and talking at the same time. The next thing I remember was waking up in the recovery room being asked how I was and given the time and space to relax and fully gain my senses when I was ready I was offered tea and toast which I gladly accepted I was then greeted by a Nurse who went through the outcomes of the procedure and allowed me to ask questions regarding same. They informed me that my son had been informed that the procedure was over and when I had been given sufficient time to change and feel able to was taken back to the waiting area to my son who was driving me home.
I cannot praise the staff the systems and procedures enough this not only was a well choreographed procedure from start to finish but it was carried out with every courtesy and kindness that could be afforded this hospital and associated services can be very proud of the way they treat their patients throughout their journey in their care.
I have had previous experiences with this Health Trust and every time I can only give it a ten out of ten.
In my opinion you are a credit to the people you serve and a credit to yourselves.
Just brilliant!
