I broke a bone in my arm/wrist 2 weeks ago. Spent 2 weeks in splint before getting a cast. Two days later in the afternoon my thumb went numb. Popped up to the minor injuries clinic at the Western General hospital in Edinburgh, The staff looked at it and decided to call orthopaedic on call.
I then had to go to minor injuries at REI. Within 10 mins of arrival the plaster was cut off and my hand re-splinted. It was far to tight. My hand had swollen and a nerve in my thumb was cut off. I hand marks all over my hand.
I just want you say thank you to all the staff who helped and the orthopaedic Dr who decided to just re-splint my hand for 4 weeks and let the fracture clinic decide the next step then. She decided to re plaster was too dangerous.
I can't thank everyone enough who helped me get out of pain and give me an idea of next steps. I could have lost use of my thumb if I hadn't gone in. Please for gods sake if you plaster doesn't feel right get it looked at!!
