"Staff were absolutely amazing"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Acute Frailty Unit (Ramone ward 1) Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department Enhanced Care / Acute Care at Home Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Patient care services

(as a carer),

Mum has late stage dementia, was admitted to Craigavon Area Hospital following an episode of vomiting. Mum spent around 30 hours in A&E but was very quickly moved to a private side cubicle, and received IV meds very quickly too.

Staff were absolutely amazing in helping mum as best they could in a very busy A&E environment. She was subsequently moved to the Acute Frailty Unit (Ward 1 Ramone) under the care of Dr Nelson. Dr Nelson and the team were very caring, understanding and helpful to mum and us as her family. Everything was explained simply and concisely. Mum spent 2 nights in the ward, and was discharged to the Acute Care at Home Team.

Mum returned home by ambulance (amazing service and warmth and kindness from the two staff). Within a short time of arriving home, Consultant/Dr Mahmood arrived to mum's home, provided medical advice and took time to discuss mum's recovery and the best way to go about helping her.

This was followed by a pharmacist who met with us to discuss the new medication prescribed to mum during her hospital stay. This was followed by a nurse who checked mum's vitals. This was followed by a delivery at 10pm of a drug. We live in a very rural area and are absolutely blown away by the ACAH Team, their kindness and professionalism.

A nurse arrived next day to take mum's bloods. Then a physio/OT arrived to review her mobility, seating etc. We could not be happier with mum's care. She has made a really good recovery. Knowing now that we can rely on the ACAH Team (via GP referral) has removed a great deal of stress and anxiousness about 'what happens next?', 'what should we do if...?' etc. Thank you NHS and Southern Health and Social Care Trust!

Hi Daughter/Carer of Patient with late stage Dementia,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such positive feedback and with so much detail.

I am very reassured re the collaborative working from staff in ED to Frailty Ward to NIAS to Acute Care at Home Team to ensure a positive and effective patient journey. This feedback in relation to the patients they care for, makes the working day a joy for our staff.
