I recently attended the GP at Calderside medical Practice in Blantyre with a number of chronic but vague symptoms that are really affecting my life. I’m a health professional and was concerned my worries would be dismissed. I saw Dr Gripper who couldn’t have made me feel more comfortable or valid. She was sympathetic, gentle, straightforward and overall lovely to me. As was Dr Woof, who I saw on my last attendance.
My bloods were taken by Jane, who was quick, efficient and also lovely. And I’ve always received an appointment quickly within the realms of possibility by all the reception staff, who have always been helpful and kind.
Because I’m a health professional, I’m aware of the pressure on GP practices, but also that so many see so few patients face to face. Throughout the pandemic, I had no problem getting an appointment at Calderside, who remained open and had an efficient and clean system.
The pressure on healthcare professionals and staff is immense, from Surgeons to cleaners. It’s exhausting to constantly be pleasant and patient when you’re often getting the worst word out peoples’ mouths, on top of an unmanageable workload.
I’m at the end of my tether right now. If on my last attendance I wasn’t treated with such dignity and respect, I’d hate to think how negative an impact that would have had on me mentally and physically. And Dr Gripper’s kindness has allowed me to take steps in the right direction.
I just wanted to say thank you to all the people who are kicking water uphill every day to look after people like me.
We would be nowhere without you all. Thank you.
"Wonderful care"
