"Fantastic care"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Blossom Ward (Paediatrics) Radiography services / X-ray Department Southern Health & Social Care Trust / Urgent Care Centre (Phone First)

(as a parent/guardian),

I contacted the phone first service because my son was complaining of chest pain. I was contacted back very quickly by a nurse who was so helpful and got me an appointment. I took my son to the urgent care centre and he was seen by Dr Lloyd, who was very thorough as my son is known to have chest pain and has had checks done previously, he rang all the relevant departments to enquire about the next steps. He sounded my son's chest and quickly got an ECG done and spoke with the Paeds team, who then sent my son for an x-ray and to go to the blossom short stay ward to be assessed by Paeds drs.

Then we went to the x-ray department and my son was quickly called and x-rayed, the girls were very good and friendly and they explained to my son what they were doing. We were then directed to attend the blossom short stay ward.

When we arrived on the ward we were quickly welcomed and shown to a room and then nurse Roisin came to complete the admission booklet. She was kind and had a lovely way when talking to my son and finding why we had came to the ward. She completed all his clinical observations and an ECG and she was so kind to get my son food as we had been down at the hospital quite a few hours.

He was then seen by a doctor, she was very thorough and attentive and had a good way when engaging with my son, talking about animals whilst carrying out her examinations. He really liked her.

Dr Vasi then came to see my son and she explained to us that she needed to liaise with the appropriate team to discuss the next steps in her findings. I feel she has been very attentive and thorough with her care as she previously referred my son for an echo because of findings she found on an x-ray. Specialist nurse Roisin carried out a trial for a penicillin allergy and she was explained what she was doing and she offered good support when I explained my concerns about the symptoms my son has been presenting with.

Overall the experience and care we received was fantastic and I am sorry I cannot remember all the names of the people who looked after my son.

Good Afternoon EMO1,

Thank you so much taking the time to share your experience of the care your son received the Urgent Care Service.

Our Service is designed to assess patients who may need to attend the Emergency Department or a Minor Injury Unit appointment, and to guide them to the most appropriate care pathway. This ensures patients receive the care they need, in the right place, first time around. Therefore, it is great to hear that the nurse responded quickly, providing an appointment for further assessment, and that Dr Loyd took a thorough approach, liaising with the relevant departments to ensure your son was fully assessed and given the prompt care he needed in the appropriate place.

We understand how worrying it can be when a child is unwell and I am glad to hear that our team could provide the help and support you both needed. We are so privileged to have a job where we can care for people and make a difference.

I will ensure Dr Loyd and the rest of the team are all aware of your kind words - we really appreciate them.

Thank you again and Best Wishes, Patricia.

I'm one of the paediatric Consultants in Blossom Ward and I wanted to thank you for taking the time to give this feedback about your experiences of your service. I am extremely pleased to read that your was seen and assessed quickly and thoroughly and that your concerns were listened to and addressed. I hope that he's doing OK now.

I know that staff are always grateful for any feedback, but especially when it's so positive as yours. I will inform Dr Vasi and Advanced Nurse Practitioner Roisin of your comments.

I wish you all the best, David
