My daughter attended day surgery for a small operation. She was quite apprehensive and nervous, as I’m sure most children (and adults!) would be when faced with an unknown situation.
Everyone she had contact with, from checking in at reception, the pre-assessment carried out by Alanna, the surgeons coming to see her before her surgery (Felicity and Mr Amjad), the lovely anaesthetist that took time to explain the process of the operation (I’m sorry, I can’t remember her name!), Charlie that came to take us to the operating theatre and also swiftly jumped into action when he realised my daughter was scared of seeing needles (Where’s Wally is the perfect book to take anyone’s mind off anything - thank you Charlie!). Then the nurses team in the recovery ward. Everyone made the process far far easier for me as a mum, and also my daughter that started the day feeling anxious.
On a separate note, my son has recently had a run of bad luck with broken bones and pins needed and has also been in both ward 1a and 1b…… everyone again has always been amazing. Mr Osman and Mr Smith in ortho, Charlie and the rest of the crew in the theatre waiting area (their football chat certainly gave my son a laugh while nervously waiting), the nurse teams. All amazing.
As a mum all I want is my children to feel safe and well looked after and that’s exactly what I’ve experienced.
"We felt safe and well looked after"
