"Labour and delivery"

About: Continuity of Midwifery Carer Service / Emerald Team Craigavon Area Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

After a long wait in the hospital for my induction (delivery suite was very busy!) I was so glad to see a familiar face when I was taken into the delivery suite and seen Suzanne, she put both my husband and I at ease and made what was a very daunting experience more bearable with her calm and friendly nature.

Labour wasnt really progressing through the night but was thankful again to have another familiar face when Suzanne’s shift ended and Sarah joined, who helped me get comfortable in different positions and get some sleep, again labour wasn’t going very fast so when Sarah’s shift ended my main midwife a different Sarah popped in which really helped give me a boost (even if I was quite high on morphine and wasn’t making much sense!) as she knew what me and how to lift my spirits a little bit, she also made my husband feel comfortable enough leaving me to go and eat something as he hadn’t wanted to leave me previously.

Labour finally started to progress towards the evening and Grace took over, who was great. She helped me find ways to get more comfortable for delivery and assured me I could keep going (well at that point I had no choice really!) when my baby boy made a rather speedy entrance causing a tear which I lost a lot of blood from Grace helped keep me calm and make sure that both of us were ok.

I ended up with a lengthy wait to go to theatre to get stitches but Grace stayed with me the whole time and came to theatre with me which made me feel less anxious. She was also the first person I seen when I came round from  passing out in theatre which again was very reassuring at a very terrifying time. I cant thank team emerald enough for all that they did for me, my husband and our son throughout the whole Labour and delivery journey, while we had a few trying and scary experiences at the hospital the team couldn’t have done enough for us and we will always be eternally grateful for them!
