I was referred by the GP to the Dundee Adult Psychology Unit in 2024, as I could not manage my OCD.
I was suffering frequent panic attacks and felt I could not function properly as I was in a constant state of anxiety. My main anxiety was around food preparation and germs.
My psychologist was Glen and he changed my life. He took time to get to the route of my obsessions and worked on a strategy to help me manage the anxiety when it left me feeling panicked. For the first time I understood how my brain worked and that it wasn't stopping the obsessive thoughts but finding a way to sit with them without acting on the compulsion to alleviate the intense anxiety.
Prior to the therapy sessions, I felt a failure for not being able to stop the thoughts but due to Glen guiding me through the CBT and ERP sessions in such a positive way, I started to fear the thoughts less and gained confidence in being able to manage my OCD. Since the therapy finished, I have been using the techniques and feel confident that I am now, for the first time in many years, able to manage the symptoms of OCD without it affecting my life in such a negative way.
I feel physically and mentally well and am positive for the future. This would not have been possible without the support, understanding and excellent care provided by my psychologist. I cannot praise the Adult Psychology Unit enough for allowing me access to such an invaluable service.
