"Kilsyth Cottage Hospital"

About: Coatbridge Locality Support Service / Integrated Rehabilitation Team

(as a relative),

Around mid February, my mum was admitted to Kilsyth Victoria Memorial Cottage Hospital for rehabilitation after a spell in Monklands hospital where she was being treated for delirium. We chose to send mum there after getting opinions from a good few people whom we knew had experience of having relatives in there . Some reviews we got were ,however , not as positive. I’m so glad we went with our gut instinct as our mum received nothing but the best care and attention from all members of the staff in there . From day 1 we were all welcomed and talked through what to expect during mums stay . Mum was always clean , happy , well fed ! And encouraged to sit with other patients to make her stay there as good as possible. My mum is a mother to 5 children , 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and deserved to be treated with dignity and respect as it’s sometimes forgotten by outsiders that there is a person behind the patient sitting there confused and upset . Kilsyth came up trumps in terms of just that and one of the best validation of the fabulous care and attention was that mum walked her visitors ( sometimes too quickly! ) to the door after each visit waved them off quite happily before heading back into the TV room to chat with the “girls” the friends she had made during her time in there which was over 8 weeks . If mum was upset about staying she would clearly have shown that . Thankfully this was never a concern . All the staff, to many to name (which is another positive as plenty of them to the 16 or so patients,) were so lovely and welcoming but a special mention to Shirley . Thank you all so much for your care and support that has meant that our mum can celebrate her 92nd birthday this coming May in her own home ! You’re all welcome to join mum for a cup of tea and bit of birthday cake !
