"Excellent antenatal and postnatal care"

(as the patient),

Following two previous miscarriages, we found out we were expecting again and initially, I was anything but excited.  I thought we would be going down the same route as the previous pregnancies, and I did not want to see any medical staff out of fear of what they might say about my higher BMI.  I could not have been more wrong - every single health care professional I spoke to along the course of my pregnancy has treated me with so much care and respect and thankfully, our healthy baby boy was born in March.

Throughout the pregnancy my primary midwife, Lynsay, based in Roxburgh Street practice and the Health centre in Galashiels has been friendly, supportive and patient with all my concerns and little anxieties.

We had extra scans to make sure baby was growing well, and throughout, the care given by the midwives and sonographers at BGH has been of an excellent standard.

Dr Mackenzie, our consultant was amazing - always ensuring we understood all our options and putting us at ease when it came to our planned c-section.

The operating team, including primary consultant Dr McGowan were fantastic at putting us at ease and bring our baby into the world in a calm, relaxed environment.  The anaesthetist was also patient and determined - I'm so grateful she persisted so I could be present and alert for the birth.

Every single person working in ward 16 deserves a medal!  Nothing was a bother, and it really made our memories all the more special knowing how well we were taken care of.

Finally, our health visitor Karen is a fantastic ongoing support - I was nervous about having someone in the house but now I look forward to her visit and checks on the wee man to make sure he is progressing well!

I'm so pleased our family was started using the Borders Health Board - I really don't have a negative thing to say about the care we have received and considering the pressure the NHS is under, I think it's even more outstanding to look at the exceptional care we have received at each stage.
