Despite many specialised surgeons in the Orthopaedics department of Colchester General Hospital, it appears that there is only one who is able to deal with lower back/spinal problems; resulting in a lengthy waiting list. However, it also appears that an appointment with a specialist doesn't necessarily mean you are going to see the specialist, instead you might be seen by a colleague of who will discuss your case at the next MDT meeting. Once a decision has been made you are put on to a waiting list to see the specialist and yes, you've guessed it, you don't necessarily get to see the specialist- you see a colleague who may then tell you that you need to see the specialist and offers to put you on the waiting list. And so on.
I feel one consultant should not be expected to deal with so many patients and have such little influence over the patients.
I have been left in severe pain but without seeing the specialist, who has already agreed I need an operation, I won't be put on the waiting list.
The current system isn't working.
