"Grateful for the care my son received"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My 9 year old son was admitted under the care of the paediatric team at Crosshouse Hospital in early April, he was discharged five days later. I have to commend the care and treatment my son received during his stay. I had every confidence that he was being cared for and was safe. He was very poorly and it was a very anxious time.

All the staff were very professional, caring and friendly, everyone introduced themselves -which does make a difference. His care was delivered in a timely, safe and consistent manner. For example, if we buzzed for assistance this was answered very promptly despite the ward being very busy, and requests for analgesia were dealt with in a timely manner.

Overall, considering how poorly my son was and how anxious we all were our stay in the paediatric unit was made pleasant and bearable by the care and compassion of all the staff. We are home now and my son is recovering well. I feel comforted knowing I can call the paediatric unit at any time should I be concerned about my son.

Feeling very grateful for the care my son received.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Joolz,

Thank you for taking the time to post this, particularly at a time when you have just come through a worrying time with your son. It is always worrying when your child is ill no matter what age they are. I hope he is fully recovered now. All the things you have mentioned may seem small e.g. the buzzer being answered quickly, but all the 'small' things add up to good care. NHS Ayrshire and Arran does want everyone to experience such professional care and I am delighted this has been your experience

I will make sure this is passed to those involved in your son's care,

Kind regards,

Eunice
