I've had 4 separate experiences at the Whittington Hospital now. The 1st was for my nan. She sadly died aged 96 in the Whittington after being admitted with a stroke. The dignity, respect & care they showed her was amazing, never giving up hope for her. The 2nd was for my aunt, who is under the care of the Dermatology Dept for an auto immune skin condition. Again, brilliant care with a successful diagnosis & ongoing treatment program. The 3rd was for my aunt again. After months of her doctor at her surgery telling her an illness was nothing to worry about & only side effects from medication.I eventually rushed her to A&E where she stayed in the Cloudsley ward for 2 months. I was told she would've died if I hadn't brought her in. Although she had a heart attack whilst in hospital, she survived and is now fully recovered thanks to the care & compassion of Cloudsley. All the staff are wonderful and caring. My aunt has nothing but praise for them. She actually shed a tear when she had to say goodbye to them. They even arranged 4 weeks convalescence care once she was discharged & I thank them for saving her life. Last year I was admitted to Chase Farm Hospital, Enfield for pneumonia. I was under the care of the geriatric ward (i am not elderley, but no beds available elsewhere!). The comparison was unbelievable. The care at Chase Farm (or lack of) was shocking. When I'm eventually elderly & needing care, I will choose Whittington to look after me, even though I am a resident of Enfield. And finally, yes my aunt again, had cataract surgery. Complete success. In by 9am and home by 12pm, with fab aftercare. Had the other eye done a few months later and no problems whatsoever. The only complaint I have and this was an isolated incident relating to a nurse who was on duty in A&E was very offhand & rude when examining my aunt, giving dirty looks showing no compassion at all. She was very intimidating at a time when my aunt felt vulnerable & scared. She obviously didn't have a caring nature & I don't understand why people like this choose a nursing profession. It would be sad if a bad egg brought negative reviews though as this hospital, the many docs and nurses we have seen over the years are fab. Well done The Whittington, you are amazing!
