"Critical Mass"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

After spending a week on Sonning ward I wish to convey a big ‘Thank You’ to all the ward staff, my consultant and breast care team, whose expert care made the stay as agreeable as possible. The nurses were efficient, friendly and reassuring and the ward regularly cleaned. The breast care team were clear, amenable and supportive. Once again going beyond the call of duty my surgeon visited his post-op patients on his day off. During the last two years of treatment the breast care team and hospital staff from consultants, surgeons, oncologists, radiographers, registrars, doctors, nurses and auxiliary staff have generally been superb. At every stage, from regular appointments, to chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgeries the Royal Berkshire medical staff have offered good clinical care embedded in approachable professionalism. Despite their working under occasionally super-human time constraints in visibly tired, frequently over-stretched facilities, my experience has been that the majority of staff are committed in their attempt to offer their patients the best possible service. A few observations; improvements could be made to coordinate the appointments system. Also evidently investment is required in facilities; especially the busy, crowded cancer clinic waiting areas and worn examination rooms, (where possible natural light is always appreciated...). Additionally, to avoid infection and assist post-op recovery, hands free tap and loo sensors, (most especially located on wards), would seem sensible. Finally, to reduce draughts and heating bills, double glazing, (especially near ward beds), may prove beneficial (and of course Wifi access would be ideal…). That writ, once again a massive thank you to the RBH staff and the NHS, for treatment which has saved my life.

Many thanks for giving such positive feedback with regard to your care. We appreciate you taking the time and trouble to do so and be assured that this will be shared with teams. Thank you too for identifying areas which require attention. We do value constructive feedback and our Estates team are investigating the feasiblity of adaptations to patient bathroom facilities as suggested in your post.
