I am at the moment recovering from major sugery at home! I had my operation on Tuesday 20th May and was discharged Thursday 22nd May dispute my blood pressure being very low at 80/44 consistently after my operation. On arrival I was fully expecting to be in ICU for 2 days and up to a further 2 days on SHC surgical high care this was the recommendation of my neurologist as I have a extremely rare condition Myasthinia Gravis and there could be serious complications following sugery to repair a hiatus hernia. On arrival I was informed I would be going to E2 after my operation E2 being a general surgical ward this rung alarm bells for me. After being ushered through to a holding area where my husband was not allowed I spoke to the anisatist who said there were no beds on ICU or HDU so I could not have my sugery! After travelling for an hour and a half and them sending my husband away then started the most aweful surgical experience I've ever had to date! I said I wanted this sorted out right away as I was not going home I've come in for sugery and it's there lack of care that ment they booked me into the wrong bed for after. I was then told they do no magically have a bed on ICU so I went streight away to theater when I came round I was moved to ICU as arranged the nurse who cared for me there was impeccable dedicated and professional however there were several staff wondering around moaning that ICU had many post op patients in and they were told to state they have no beds in fact there were 8! After my surgeon came to see me he recommended a step down to surgical high care this was agreed however I was informed I was being transfured to E3! A general surgical ward with no specialists. I put across good argument stating my concerns and that I was not going to a general ward as this was not the plan for my care! I was then told by the consultant in charge that I cannot choose I have to go where they say and where there is a space! And that If I refuse to move I'm somehow forcing him to have to send another patient to another hospital. I took issue at this blackmail and said this is all against my care plan so he agreed to call my surgeon he then came back and said my surgeon never said that was his recommendation so I agreed to go to the ward! While on the ward my surgeon came to see me and was confused as to why I was on a general ward and the ICU consultant has not even had a conversation with him! While on the ward my blood pressure remained low 80-44 no fluids were given to try and correct this also I had to wait 41/2 hours for vital pain and condition medication I asked 9 times in total! There was a woman on the ward who had been in the same blooded sheets for 2 days and the ward was dirty with no hand washing between patients after trying to sleep for many hours without sucsess I decided to go home.
