Mu mum is 68 years old and was rushed to hospital with chest pains. The staff on A&E were absolutely fantastic. However when she was moved to a ward things got a whole lot worse. She was put on MEAU in the early hours of the morning and it was 9 hours before a doctor came to see her and when they did come she was told that she should have been seen within 4 hours!
Later on that day she was told by a ward doctor that she could either have a blood clot on her chest, an angina attack or her hiatus hernia was playing up but not to worry and was sure she'd be sent home soon - but without performing any tests. I got up there at mid morning and no one came to check on her - no nurses, no doctors, no one until 4 hours later. The nurse was very nice and explained that she wouldn't be sent home until her consultant had been. When a consultant finally came to see her he was appalled that she hadn't had any x-rays or her blood retaken. Within an hour she had both done.
Thinking things couldn't get any worse.....at 1 am the next morning she was woken up and moved to the SEAU. In my opinion this is disgusting. A consultant came to see her on that ward and said that patients aren't supposed to be moved after 11 pm unless it is in there interest (it obviously wasn't in my opnion) as later that day she was discharged with an angina spray and is being sent for tests.
I find this treatment utterly disgusting and feel that as a hospital you have a duty of care to all your patients and I believe my mum received inadequate care.
