What I liked
Nothing
What could be improved
Better communication and access to information.
Staffing levels so that there were nurses available to respond to my father's needs, including personal hygiene.
Staff available to clean up spills on the floor t prevent trip hazards and I also found a knife that had been left lying on the floor.
Better information flow between QA and SMH about Px conditions and results.
Consistent information from staff.
More stimulation to prevent mental confusion - the ward is bland and there is nothing to do.
Readiness to send Pxs home to minimise stay in an institution.
Anything else?
If we had known what the conditions were like, we would have made different decisions around the immediate need for pain relief for my father - he was admitted for severe pain resulting in the inability to walk, possibly as a result of long term back problems but the treatment he has received does not seem to tak into account the original complaint. The explanation for his pain was related to a previously diagnosed condition that had not changed in 3 years. I would not wish this on anyone's relative.
